About Anthony

Nashville jazz drummer, Anthony Matula was born in Pennsylvania, and from an early age has had a love and a passion for music.  At the age of 8 he started playing drums and started studying under Dave Lazorcik, who's teachers included Joe Morello and John Riley. He played with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Jazz band directed by Ron Waters and he was the 2000 scholarship recipient from the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz

Matula then attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. as a jazz drum set major. Studying under Bob Kaufman, Anthony developed more around the art of jazz of drumming and continued his exploration of musical phrasing and soloing.

As an independent artist, residing in Nashville, TN, Anthony has played with many performers, studios, organizations and theater companies and has recently released his first independent jazz standards record "The Blue Hour."

Every time I play the a song, it's like finding something new. Jazz [for me] is about exploring the possibilities and discovering new paths along a familiar trail. Nothing is better than putting a smile on the listeners face.

I proudly endorse

I could honestly not recommend a drummer with more enthusiasm. Anthony really swings and understands the nuances of jazz, but his versatility can go to virtually any other genre with the blink of an eye. He has ascended to master of all trades as a drummer.”
